Asbestos

I am thinking about buying a 1978 model and I want to know if it would have asbestos or not. I have a 2 year old daughter and I don’t want her around it, if I can help it. Thanks for your input!

  1. The Mexican Flu – Swine Flu

I believe it started getting phased out and was used less in the late 70s, early 80s although it was not actually fully banned until around 1990. But by then most places had already done away with using it.
The good thing about asbestos, as long as its in tact and not fooled with generally its ok. Its when people try to remove it that the particles spread and can get inhaled into the lungs and body.
Myself, just to make certain if i were you im sure there is some company somewhere that probably tests for asbestos, try to find them and get them to check it out before you buy.
We have a group of very old schools in my city, built around the early 1900s that are being torn down due to the asbestos levels and also lead paint in the buildings. It would take more to clean it up than to build new schools.

Someone once told me 1975, then after they made ceilings look the same without using asbestos. But, if it’s there, you can always spray it down with water (put plastic down first) and scrape it off. It’ s like white damp mud then, and really cuts down on any dust. We did this in our home. It comes off very easily. Messy job, but worth it.
