Yes those could very well be containing. Asbestos in the tiles will be found depending on the year they were made rather than the size. If those are in a newer building they will not be containing. Older buildings – generally pre 1985 – have a higher chance of containment. If you’re ever uncertain, though and need to disturb them ask first when they were put in and if you still have doubts ask for them to be tested. Always protect yourself the reduced health isn’t worth it.

On a side note – if asbestos isn’t being disturbed and made friable, it is harmless to you and your health.

the largest I have come across with asbestos is 4′X4′. They are not very common. You will fin 2′X4′ lay-in tile with asbestos in older buildings all the time.

Suspended ceiling tiles are generally 2×2 feet or 2×4 feet. The smaller glued tiles are usually 1×1 ft.

You probably won’t find any made of asbestos any more.
