You really don’t have to worry about it unless you plan on tearing apart things. Asbestos is harmless when “locked up” in plaster or insulation. It is only an issue if you do major remodel. Then you can use a face mask. There are far more dangerous things you encounter everyday.

Are you planning demolition work in the near future? That is the only time asbestos will be a problem. And even then, all you need to do is wear a respirator. They have them at lowes and home depot especially rated for asbestos removal. If anything is asbestos it would be the siding, and you would see it.

Actually asbestos was widely used, at least here in the US, extensively up until the 1970s when the press began to realize it as killing people (mesothelioma). Pipefitters, particularly those working in the navy yards, bathed in the stuff. Asbestos is only dangerous in its friable state–that is, flaking off. The fibers embed themselves in your lung tissue. Asbestos was used as an insulator, so hot water pipes were often wrapped in the stuff, then the insulation was taped off. The pipes will look as though they were made much like a cast for your arm. Asbestos was also used to insulate behind ranges and range hoods. Abatement is VERY expensive, it is treated as a very dangerous hazard. If you find it, buy something else.

ok… the real estate person should have that info for you. Its kinda gotta be in there. If they don’t tell you, and there is, you’ve got a marvelous case against them. Deal Breaker? I’d say yes. Removal would be absolutely costly. Can’t even imagine it. Might be cheaper to buy it, destroy it and build.

Well you shouldn’t really worry about any asbestos unless you disturb it. Even then of the 12 kinds of asbestos only one of them is the type that will cause any kind of problems thats the ones with a hooked fiber. You can get the same type of diseases by spending too much time at the beach, Its called silicosis. I wouldn’t pay anybody to do a survey, cause if it is found they will want you to pay through the nose for the removal.
