Basement can get wet during rainy season. (Working on that) Also may have asbestos so we do not want to disturb it at all. Will be puttin small area rugs in to soften it up. Approx 1000 sq ft.

we’re getting a seller’s concession to cover closing costs on a house. but the inspection turned up several issues that need to be addressed immediately, chief among them the presence of asbestos in the cellar. the sellers offered to lower the sales price by $5000 to cover its removal along with some other repairs revealed by the inspection. we planned to take out the same loan so we’d get back the $5000 to make the repairs. our mortgage broker is saying the lender will not allow this. we can reduce our loan by $5K, which is great, but that doesn’t give us any money up front for the asbestos removal. after the downpayment, plus moving costs, we won’t really have enough to make these very imporant repairs. i’ve read about other people financing repair costs, so why are they refusing?

i just saw this “banned” looney toons cartoon, and it had daffy duck in germany during WW2 and he was “messing” around with the general ( i think he is a general ) and he pulls down a curtain that has -ASBESTOS- written on it. and it confused me to what it meant. any ideas?

Ok so ive just brought my first house, and the tiny bathroom has no toilet so i want to renovate!!! The walls are made out of asbestos, can I put gyp rock over the top…and would i have to do this before or after the bathroom is put in? Im a bit confused?

There is a BROKEN transite vent pipe located in the attic. I got the test result says the transite pipe is a ACM, contains 22% asbestos.

Some HVAC contrabors did the installation work in the attic and broke the transite pipe without knowing it’s a hazard of asbestos explosures. The broken transite pipe was left without any proper wrapping

I was in the middle of purchasing a house and the house inspector found there is a ‘broken transite vent pipe’ located in the attic. It looks like there were some contractors who did Air Conditioning installation work in the attic a while back and they somehow broke the transite vent pipe without knowing it’s a hazard of friable asbestos. The broken transite pipe was left without any proper wrapping or coating as of today.

As per suggested by the inspector, I asked asbestos consultant to collect samples and to run an asbestos testing. The test result revealed that the transite pipe is a ACM (Asbestos Containing Material), containing 22% asbestos.

My question here is:
If I hire a fully licensed asbestos abatement contractor to do the removal/clean-up, after they do the asbestos removal/cleaning job, can asbestos be 100% removed? Will there still be some airborne asbestos fibers and/or particles in the house? Is it safe to proceed to buy this house?

I have asbestos tiles in my basement (of a home I recently purchased). I sent them off to a lab for testing. The lab results came back 4% asbestos. I definitely want to remove the tiles. The majority of the tiles are in good shape. Some of the corners on a few of them are cracking. Right now I am considering the DIY vs. hiring the pros for removal

I have been given conflicting advise thus far. Some say “do it yourself, there is a very low percentage of asbestos in your tiles — 4%.” Others say “Don’t risk it, pay for the peace of mind.”

Here are my questions:

Is 4% a low percentage for asbestos tiles? Is this low enough to be trivial or of lessor concern when taking on DIY removal?

The pros quoted me $1300 for removal and an additional $275 for an air quality test/certification. Is this a fair price for about 500 square feet of tiles? Is air quality testing really necessary given the low percentage of asbestos in my tiles? Or, are they just making money off the fear and hysteria around asbestos?
I called the city and they told me that the percentage is so low that they would just dispose of them as normal waste. They recommended we rent a dumpster and just throw them out.
