Did I expose myself to Asbestos?

Asbestos
I live in an apartment which was built in 1970s and has popcorn ceiling. I believe there is asbestos somewhere in the ceiling. My question is – does the popcorn itself contain any asbestos OR is the asbestos “behind” the popcorn layer ?

Recently, I was sticking some flourescent star shapes to the ceiling and in the process a lot of white powdery stuff from the ceiling fell on my bed and floor. Am I in any danger of having inhaled asbestos ?
Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
clarification : pickedon says in his ‘answer’ that I am over-reacting…..but everywhere on the intternet it says that popcorn ceilings (esp from the pre1980s) are usually asscociated with asbestos. What am I missing ? That said what I really need to know is whether asbestos is part of the popcorn or is in some other layer behind the surface of the ceiling.

First of all check with your building maintenance personnel. If no answer is forthcoming, check with your township’s health department. The white powdery stuff from the ceiling is most likely plaster, but I would check it out the the appropriate people before panicking.

your being silly. any apartment complex has done all sorts of studies on lead paint and asbestos, which you are entitled to see. it’s the law.
popcorn ceilings don’t contain asbestos. since that’s something you did not know, try to learn something about it before you go drama class on everyone.
an apartment complex can’t rent without full disclosure of it’s “suspected” contents. ask the property manager about the ceilings.
the internet is not THAT trustworthy:))
Over many years, the hazard of Asbestos exposure has been BLOWN WAY OUT OF PROPORTION.
Even IF there were Asbestos in your ceiling texture, the exposure you describe is absolutely NEGLIGIBLE.
The hazard of Asbestos exposure occurs for people who work with it all day, 5 days a week FOR YEARS!!!!
The danger is for people who are exposed to large amounts of the material for years, such as employees of Asbestos products manufacturers, insulation installers, construction and maintenance people who remove and remediate Asbestos for a living.
IF your ceiling had Asbestos in the texture compound, the tiny bit you would have been exposed to, AND for the short duration will never cause you any harm, and you should relax and not worry about it.

what you really need to know? everything about asbestos, and why you need not worry yourself.
A huge dose of asbestos fibers, like the clouds that came down with the word trade center, takes about 25-30 YEARS to show up in your lungs.
expect many lawsuits in the years 2035-2050 related to it.
“popcorn” ceilings are stiff, not loose fibers.
do you REALLY think a landlord would be ignorant enough to expose ANYONE to asbestos, facing lawsuits, closing, jobs lost?
I thought radon took over as the freakout of the decade. Just read up on asbestos, your ignorance is showing.
