We had our old asbestos tiling taken from our basement floor as part of the job a waterproofing company was doing for us. They waterproofed and redid the walls, plus removed the tiling…so we thought. They were supposed to set up containment and get rid of every last speck of it, but when my husband was moving furniture around (what we had down there was moved from section to section as they worked) he uncovered a LOT of dust and cracked tile.
He worked for a good solid hour before realizing where the dust was coming from. I’m terrified that in many years to come he’ll have to deal with the aftereffects of this.
Is there any type of test to determine exposure to asbestos, and if any is in the lungs? If so, what can they do about it? I’m not even sure if I need to be concerned because it was short term. If you have any experience or knowledge of this, I’d appreciate it! Thx.

Is that really an issue if you get a home that was built before 1960? I’ve heard there might be lead in the pipes and so on. Is this always true? Would new plumbing mean they got rid of the crap? And how about asbestos? What do I need to know about these hazards prior signing a contract?

The ceiling to my open sided garage where the cars and ride-on lawn mower is kept is made op asbestos. Also my cats often climb up and sleep on and under the roof. The mower is only used approx. 15 times a year and is always there. Should I worry about all this? Is there a chance I could get sick from playing with my cat (who properly often rubs and scratches the asbestos) or using my lawn mower?

i’ve been reading about asbestos and the articles tell you what to do if you find asbestos. however, they also say that asbestos is kind of impossible to identify by the naked eye.

so… is it basically a rule of thumb that if a place was built between the 1960s and the 1980s then you should pay someone to come and do an asbestos survey for you? can the council do these free of charge?

and does anyone know how expensive asbestos removal is? would it be a deal breaker on buying a place?

I’m gutting an old Victorian house and am pretty sure the radiator piles are wrapped in asbestos, but I’ve found some white insulation in places. What about horse hair plaster? Plaese help me identify this stuff so i can take the necessary precautions.

We are buying a house and we find out the heating ducts are made of asbestos material. There are about 25 feet of ducting . Anybody know how much would it coast us to remove via a reputable asbestos abatment company?
