There was a flood in our house the other week and the ceiling got damaged, we live in MOD property so they come and fix it. The contractors were due to come out tomorrow to replace the ceiling but they have canceled at the last minute saying there is asbestos in the ceiling and they need a Specialist company to come out. My question is….will the asbestos harm my family because im sure it will be in the air when they rip the old ceiling out, I have 3 children and myself and my 1 year old will be home when the work gets carried out. Do you think we should stop in a hotel? if so how long for? (im not sure how long it will take to clear the air.) The ceiling getting replaced is in the downstairs hallway just outside the kitchen door so I will be in and out the kitchen getting bottles etc for my daughter.
Please could someone tell me how dangerous this stuff is?

I am a new mother and just came back to work. They are doing a bunch of remodeling at my work (in a museum) and near me, they are remodeling a hall. They closed the closest office near this one hall that had a really horrible smell. Now I got in my email today that absolutely no one should go in that office due to asbestos in the air. The office door is closed but it isn’t an air-tight seal. I do smell some chemicals. I am still breastfeeding and I am really worried I might carry asbestos or other chemicals to my family at home! I am waiting to hear back from my doctor. What do you all think? Should I go home? Will i get paid? probably not huh?

I’m 19 years old and I’ve been running/designing the lights for a small local theatre for a few years now. Tonight during a rehearsal, someone I work with pointed out that the insulated wiring used for many of the older lights (which most of our light are) is asbestos and he wants me to work with him over the summer cleaning the lights, and replacing the old wires. I’m a bit concerned that I’ve spent so many hours in a small closed booth with these asbestos cables, and I’ve also definitely handled them at various points. Is it really anything to worry about? I recently was told that we have asbestos in the tiles of our hallways. I read the leaflet we recieved about it and it said if we wish to get it removed it would be more riskful to us.

How dangerous is exposure to Asbestos? My brother has spent the whole day working in a confined area where Asbestos had recently been removed and not fully cleaned up afterwards. There was dust laying around everywhere which became airborne as he worked throughout the day. He had no mask on. Is this dangerous and could there be any damage to his health done? Im really worried so if anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Only one that i know about asbestos; it’s a harmful metarial to enviroment and so to human health, generally used in construction and manufacture over ships, cargo boat, etc.
Why is only the asbestos used in this industrial area?
Which feature is special to the asbestos?
Its not available to used another metarial instead of the asbestos??

We recently found asbestos in the exposed piping in our basement. It is wrapped in some sort of cloth, but the cloth is torn in several places, leaving the asbestos exposed. The property management company with which we deal as renters sent its maintenence crew out and they simply wrapped the asbestos in duct tape. Does anyone know if this is a common practice and if it is safe and effective? Thanks!
