Ok so ive just brought my first house, and the tiny bathroom has no toilet so i want to renovate!!! The walls are made out of asbestos, can I put gyp rock over the top…and would i have to do this before or after the bathroom is put in? Im a bit confused?

Say, if I hrie a fully licensed asbestos abatement contractor to do the removal/clean-up, after they do the job, how certain it is that the asbestos problems will be resolved?

Does anybody has any asbestos removal experience before?

There is a BROKEN transite vent pipe located in the attic. I got the test result says the transite pipe is a ACM, contains 22% asbestos.

Some HVAC contrabors did the installation work in the attic and broke the transite pipe without knowing it’s a hazard of asbestos explosures. The broken transite pipe was left without any proper wrapping

I was in the middle of purchasing a house and the house inspector found there is a ‘broken transite vent pipe’ located in the attic. It looks like there were some contractors who did Air Conditioning installation work in the attic a while back and they somehow broke the transite vent pipe without knowing it’s a hazard of friable asbestos. The broken transite pipe was left without any proper wrapping or coating as of today.

As per suggested by the inspector, I asked asbestos consultant to collect samples and to run an asbestos testing. The test result revealed that the transite pipe is a ACM (Asbestos Containing Material), containing 22% asbestos.

My question here is:
If I hire a fully licensed asbestos abatement contractor to do the removal/clean-up, after they do the asbestos removal/cleaning job, can asbestos be 100% removed? Will there still be some airborne asbestos fibers and/or particles in the house? Is it safe to proceed to buy this house?

I’ve removed about 1000 vinyl-asbestos tiles, without keeping them in tact (they were breaking)…

I hear that there is a risk when exposed to any amount of asbestos, but it was a one-time thing that lasted about 10 days…

I don’t know how much asbestos is contained in these tiles and the black adhesive under them, but I’m seriously starting to worry…

Will I be OK, or should I be worrying for the next 10-50 years of my life while an asbestos related illness begins to form?

I am refurbrishing my boiler and the gasket between the burner unit and firebox has deteriorated. A 6″ x 6″ piece of 1/8″ asbestos sheeting should do the job (I can simply cut that to fit). I can’t use cardboard or neoprene, it will burn. Where can such an item?

I work for removing window caulk. the window looks like 30 to 50 years old and has 6 little rectangular glass plates and the frame is made of wood.
Caulks are surrounding each glass plates and the caulks are definetly not silicone or latex. it is hard like plaster but i don’t think it’s plaster. it’s more ridged than plaster and the color of the caulk is slightly yellowish cream color. the caulk contains tiny tiny sparkling particles all over in it if you look close. i wonder if the tiny sparkling particles are asbestos. because i know they use asbestos in caulking. i don’t know if they use it for window frames tough.
does anyone know what kind of caulking it could be?
it might be just regular caulking.
From looking at the windows,
the caulks are lilltle bit curled out at the ends of other cracks with cracks here and there from weather changes. i’m thinking it might be just old latex caulk hardened from sitting long time.
but i’m still not sure.

I live in an apartment which was built in 1970s and has popcorn ceiling. I believe there is asbestos somewhere in the ceiling. My question is – does the popcorn itself contain any asbestos OR is the asbestos “behind” the popcorn layer ?

Recently, I was sticking some flourescent star shapes to the ceiling and in the process a lot of white powdery stuff from the ceiling fell on my bed and floor. Am I in any danger of having inhaled asbestos ?

Your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

clarification : pickedon says in his ‘answer’ that I am over-reacting…..but everywhere on the intternet it says that popcorn ceilings (esp from the pre1980s) are usually asscociated with asbestos. What am I missing ? That said what I really need to know is whether asbestos is part of the popcorn or is in some other layer behind the surface of the ceiling.

While trying to pull a wire from the kitchen wall down into the basement, a light white powdery substance came out.

The fallen pieces immediately crumbled upon the slightest touch and are bright white.

Looking closer up through the hole, it looks like a foam insulation that is at least 2 inches thick. It lies right on top of the original floor boards and behind/below the kitchen cabinets/wall.

Any chance this is an asbestos hazard?
Update: House was built in 1903 and has gone through at least one kitchen remodel – most recently within the last 10 years – though foam most likely in the wall?

Wire being pulled was two-wire armored cable.

Ok , my friend was ripping out 30 year old carpet in a 80 year old house and he found that under the carpet is nothing but asbestos . He wants to know what he should do as far as who to call , and he wants to know whats going to happen when he does call . like what are they going to do to his house . He seems to think that the house is going to be tented and the whole neighborhood is going to think something bad has happened . Also he is worried about the cost cause he is almost broke and was going to just put in new tile himself . Please give me real answers to these questions . Thanks .
