My basement is FILLED with asbestos pipes. My furnace is old, and all the main pipes are asbestos. This passed a home inspection, with the caution that replacement of the furnace would include proper disposal of them when the time came.

Good grief. Did the inspector recommend the asbestos consultant? Loads of houses have asbestos pipes for vents. They are behind walls and are contained, or in this case, it is in the attic and contained. It is not a hazard to your living area at all if it is in your attic. If you don’t believe me, get a second inspection by someone else. And read up on asbestos containment. If it is covered up or outside the living space, it is not an airborne hazard.

The asbestos abatement contractor will get it cleaned up and make it safe. I would not hesitate to purchase the house. I have worked in the consturction industry for 20 years. I have delt with abatement contractors on many projects. They always do a good job.

NO!! it can not be 100% removed. Yes there will still be some airborne asbestos fibers and/or particles in the house. Would I recommend it no. How good is your insurance? Will it cover cancer treatment like chemo and radiation therapy? If you have children would you want to put them through that?FIND ANOTHER HOME!!!!!
