Braking and Asbestos?

Asbestos

Does braking when driving release asbestos? I am just curious. You would think that if it did, than these brakes would be banned. I had to hard brake last night when I had the windows down and is there any risk of asbestos exposure to it?

The asbestos which cause respiratory ailment is raw asbestos and not processed one like brake shoes. Asbestos gloves is harmful. Raw asbestos used in making asbestos sheets is harmful. But, asbestos sheet is not harmful. Similarly, the brake shoes which is molded with steel wire and other chemical will not cause any harm.

It is my understanding that asbestos is no longer used in brake and clutch linings.
