Asbestos
ok i lived in a 100yr old house about 5 yrs ago,i was 10 when i finally left but aparntley my dad had taken a piece of a wall down in a hall way when i was little and i remember him doing it but i dont think he was wearing a mask and i dunno if i was exposed to the airbone particalls from the asbestos,if i had been would i be noticing any type of effects or problems how do i know if i have cancer from it?
dose asbestos allways kill?
i lived in the house 6 or 7 yrs ago actually not 5 that was a typo.

For the most part, those who got lung cancer from asbestos exposure, were exposed alot, as it was part of their job. If that was the only exposure you had, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Asbestos exposure comes from long periods of time working with it. If you dad was a construction worker who frequently works with asbestos and without a mask, then there would be cause for concern. Yes, you probably breathed some in, but so does most of the population on a daily basis. If you’re really worried about it, go to the doctor. They won’t diagnose cancer or anything, but at least it will give you some peace of mind.

the fear is not cancer but asbestosis, a long term debilitating lung disorder, characterized by steadily decreasing lung function. Put this on your back burner, in case you have problems with your breathing in the future.

Not always, you should go to your doctor and let him know that you may have been exposed, it can increase your risk of cancer, so you may need to be checked more frequently, chances are though the exposer was so minimum you have nothing to worry about

oooh honey this a dangerous thing i watched my mother die from asbestos it was the worst thing ive ever seen once they took 1 of her lungs it spreaded like wild fire I pray and hope you do not… i was only 15 when this happened and she was 36 sooo I am worried that I might have it …..

Depends on just how much exposure you were to the asbestos, in any case, you could more easily be run over by a bus worrying about the cancer from asbestos.

The way that asbestos kills is that the dust particles have “hooks” on them that can lodge deep in the lungs and will irritate them in much the same way that a grain of sand irritates an oyster. Eventually the irritation can develop into a cancerous tumor.
I wish I could say that it is impossible that you could develop side effects from such a small exposure, but it is possible. However, it is highly unlikely. Most asbestos problems are a result of higher dose longer term exposure.

if that was the only exposure you know of, then it doesn’t seem like enough to give you cancer or a disease. like others said, when you’re exposed to it year after year, then that will more than likely cause damage.
