its really not hard to do, but you need the proper ventilation along with a mask to wear while doing it.. with probably like a cheap wetvac to clean up afterwards that you can just toss in the trash... you dont want any of that crap left behind..

This job may be more suited for the professionals...asbestos can get into the lungs and cause great health problems and even death...the thousands you save may be spent on health care for you in later years and your early demise...will be quite a problem....especially for your children and not seeing your grandchildren..get help for the removal and I think if you check with your state offices, they may offer you tax relief for your expense and the safe removal of this hazard..

DON'T TOUCH IT!!! If you try to remove it,What are you going to do with it.What you are saying is illegal.Plus you have to COMPLETELY seal the room and provide negative air pressure, not to mention the protective gear you MUST wear..

Get a professional to do it. Just call around and get the best price like with anything else. Some things are safer, left to the pros.

Don't even try! It won't bother you unless it is disturbed. If removal is a must, leave it to the experts and prepare yourself for sticker shock at the price of disposal

First of all; if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it is harming nothing cover it with paint and forget it. If you want to remove it in safety just make sure it is wet (damp). Wear a respirator and a pair of coveralls. After you have it good and wet cut it into pieces, place them in plastic bags and tie the bags, hose down the area, put your coveralls in a bag, and haul to a disposal site. It is a problem only when dry and you get fibers floating in the air. When it is wet it is so much glop.

Sorry, there is no way for a home owner to remove asbestos safely. You need to hire a pro for this job, and yes, they don't come cheap......but your family health and safety must come first. Asbestos is DANGEROUS even at low levels....... seek a professional for the job.

Never wipe, dust, scrap, sand, vacuum, handle, touch, move, bump, Asbestos.

From personal experience because we just went through the same problem. All our duct work was wrapped in aspestos and yuk what a nightmare. It will cost you like crazy to hire someone to remove it the " proper " way, we were told by an expert who came to give us an estimate .... wet it down completely so it is soaked all the way thru to avoid the dust particles because that is the trouble maker. We did that took it all down while it was soaked and wet it again then we placed it in doubled lawn bags and took it to our local trash facility and told them what it was, they took it and told us they would handle it . Good luck , and make sure you have lots of ventilation , water and a good clean up job when your finished.

Accoding to EPA regulations you need to hire an Asbestos Abatement Company to thoroughly remove the asbestos from your house. To do it any other way, is ILLEGAL and puts your whole family at RISK!

My wife's cousin worked at doing this, and he had to take classes for it...

Did you know that asbestos has barbs on each particle? (Thats how it lodges in the lungs). And that ONE PARTICLE is enough to cause asbestosis of the lungs??? So, if you have just one particle, floating around in your house, and some one breathes it in, then THEY will run the risk of having it... Would you like to be responsible for having your family contract that?

Asbestos abatement teams have the equipement, and filters to throuroghy remove this in its entirety. They will vacumn the entire area with hepa filtered equipment, and ensure you that you will not have any particles hanging around. Then they can safely dispose of it.

If you want to take the "risk" of it, then its up to you! But, to me, no risk is worth it, for my family's sake....

I wish you well..
